Data Flow

Visualize the complex web of communication in your infrastructure

AppFirst Data Flow gives you a big-picture view of how your infrastructure works. Look here for a visual display of the network connections between all of your servers! You can see data updated in real time for the last few minutes, and you can also see aggregated data up to a week old. Data Flow shows you detailed information about the traffic between your servers, including:

• the number of connections between any two servers,
• the amount of data flowing in each direction,
• the total transaction time, and
• the average response time for transactions.

The connections between servers can be graphed according to any one of these details, and the color of the connection lines lets you know if the average response time is normal or abnormal. You can easily change the shape and organization of your graph, group servers together, and set the threshold for a “normal” response time. Then, you can save your layout and access it later from the list of your saved Data Flow layouts.

Data Flow is an amazing tool because it integrates seamlessly with all of the other AppFirst solutions. When you click on any of your servers on Data Flow, the most current data on that server from the AppFirst Dashboard is displayed. If you’re looking at Data Flow and notice an abnormal average response time, your next stop is AppFirst Data Insight, where you can look at each process on that server in detail to find the cause of this change. While planning for future growth with AppFirst Capacity Planning, take a look at Data Flow to see which servers may be getting a bit overloaded in the next few days, weeks, or months.
